Game Design
I studied game design while at Wichita State and building games in my free time. This has mainly focused on developing for and exploring virtual and augmented reality. Here are a few examples of projects I’ve done myself or worked on.
The Last Bitcaster
I was on a team of about five who developed a game for the Brackeys Game Jam. The game jam is an annual international competition where team create a game over the course of a week and then submit it to be judged. This years theme was “love is blind”. Our game is a light futuristic cyberpunk setting where robots have suddenly turned evil and you have to complete a course while shooting them. You have a robotic guide and helper named Avon (named after Shakespeare’s home). Spoiler: at the end she turns on you and betrays your trust, hence the theme “love is blind”. Full disclosure: I’m not taking credit for making this whole game, I was on a team of awesome and talented people who did the majority of the work. I just helped out and did the parts I was good at. I’m proud of it nonetheless.
Light Temple
The Light Temple was a collaborative project where everyone made a few levels and we assembled it all into one. The goal is search through the dimly lit ruins in order to find symbols on the ground and walls. When the symbols are found, you play you flute for it and it partly opens a door to the next level.
Word Power
Word Power was also a collaborative project where everyone built a few levels and then assembled them all into one game. You as the cube king have to get through a variety of obstacle courses by jumping, dashing and falling. Also the way you must accumilate letters to spell the word of that level.
Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy
As a project for an online course in virtual reality development, our goal was to create an experience from scratch that conveyed emotions. The emotion I chose was “fear”, specifically fear of heights. That is where the exposure therapy came form.
